The Man Who Meant Well

Simon also called Peter

the one whom Christ said

"you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church,

and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."  -Matthew 16:18...

The one who said,

"I will lay down my life for you [Jesus]." -John 13:37

...the one who loved Jesus so, was also the one who fell the most serving Christ with all of his heart.

This same man called Peter, rebuked, denied and disowned Christ.  He promised...

"Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will." -Matthew 26:33

"Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." -Matthew 26:35

And yet he did.

But God knew his heart.

Have we not all done the same?

Sin will fascinate and then assassinate.

Sin will thrill and then kill.

Sin appears pretty, but ends painful.

Sin promises much, but delivers little.

Sin will take you further than you're willing to go.

Hold you longer than you want to stay.

When sin no longer convicts, no longer stings our heart with regret, no longer causes us to cry over our failings or fear falling, then we are in danger. When we are no longer sensitive to sin, we are no longer sensitive to our God.

But... But, when our sin is deeper, God's grace is greater.  He says, "If you love me, I can still restore you."

When we fall before our Lord and weep over our sins, crying out to him, "I am sinful"; as David,

"LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger, or discipline me in your wrath ...  Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love." -Psalm 6:1,4 

God knows our heart.

"All I need to know is, DO YOU LOVE ME?" -Jesus
